Frequently Asked Questions
Newcomer - These classes are designed for students who have little or no experience in the dance offered. It's a great starting point if you are still new to learning ballroom dance. Emphasis is on learning the beginning steps that will get you comfortable with moving around the dance floor. Some of the newcomer classes are offered as a series of weeks.
Beginning - These classes are for students who have had some previous experience with the dance being offered. Emphasis is on adding onto the basics of the dance with more step combinations and technique.
Intermediate - These classes are for students that are proficient with the dance being offered. Focus is more on styling, partnering and technique as well as intermediate step patterns.
Advanced - These classes are for students that have a solid knowledge and proficiency with the dance being offered. Focus will be on styling, partnering, technique, and advanced dances and steps.
Social Variations/Ease - These classes are for all students at all levels. Focus is on learning the basics of the dance with step combinations and technique.
Syllabus Classes (Mondays) - These classes are an excellent way to gain proficiency at a single dance at a time and are recommended for students of any level. We will be using the USISTD syllabus and spend 6 weeks on each dance. You will learn all of the steps and recommended variations to the dance. We will also work on technique, alignments, leading and following. You are not required to attend all of the classes but it is highly recommended for consistency in learning. Students that take the syllabus classes also have the optional opportunity to take a medal test to achieve recognition from the USISTD including a certificate and medals and be recognized in a medal award ceremony.
Fundamentals - Each week we will concentrate on a different ballroom dance and we concentrate on technique and learn a mini routine. These classes are for all students at all levels.
Studio Practice Party - This party is a hybrid group class and party for all students of all levels to practice their social dance skills and meet other dancers in a casual and relaxed setting. Instructors are available to assist and answer questions. It is an especially valuable opportunity for new students, wedding couples and advanced students to rehearse their dancing. Admission is $10 and includes light refreshments.
It is recommended that if you are interested in a group class that
you start with that class at the beginning of each month. Most of the classes will change the featured dance each month and will progress through various step patterns and technique each week.
